Adamopoulos, Divorce Mediator and Collaborative Divorce Attorney<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Imputed and attributed income are distinguished in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/doc\/2018-child-support-guidelines\/download\">Child Support Guidelines<\/a>, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Imputed income is income that is not reported on a parent\u2019s Financial Statement but is nevertheless being received by or available to the parent. \u00a0<a href=\"Higgins%20v.%20Higgins,%20Mass.%20App.%20Ct.%202019,%20# 18-P-1313\">One appellate court decision<\/a> has said: A judge may &#8220;reasonably impute income to [a] parent&#8221; who receives &#8220;[e]xpense reimbursements, in-kind payments or benefits received by a parent, personal use of business property, and payment of personal expenses by a business in the course of employment, self-employment, or operation of a business . . . if such payments are significant and reduce personal living expenses.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Attributable income is \u00a0<a href=\"Commentary,%20Child%20Support%20Guidelines,%20\u00a7%20I(E)%20(2018)\">&#8220;[i]ncome \u2026[assigned] to a parent when the Court determines a parent is capable of earning more than is currently being earned and assigns a hypothetical amount of income to the parent.&#8221;\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 If a judge finds that a parent is unreasonably underemployed or unemployed, the judge may assign attributable income to that parent.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a92020<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Anthony is available to discuss and explain Collaborative Divorce &amp; Divorce Mediation to private and public groups.
