\"\"<\/a>People often wait until “after the holidays” to make the Decision to Divorce.\u00a0 Since it is such an important Decision, I have put together this post on important considerations.<\/p>\n

The Holiday Season is often followed by the decision to divorce \u2013 The Decision.<\/p>\n

Deciding to divorce is not easy.\u00a0 Yet, in Massachusetts, the Decision to do so is made in about 50% of marriages.<\/p>\n

For couples with young children, the Decision must consider the young children.\u00a0 Young children are those who have not graduated from high school.\u00a0 Often unknown, or unappreciated, the Decision has an indelible and devastating effect on young children.<\/p>\n

Divorce is often seen as the death of a child\u2019s family, at least as the child has known the family.\u00a0 This death can result in outcomes including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.<\/p>\n

So, it is an important decision with important ramifications.<\/p>\n

In the lives of young children, no decision of their parents can have a more negative effect than the decision to divorce. An, that is exactly the reason couples should take a few extra steps before the Decision.<\/p>\n

First, talk alone about the Decision.\u00a0 \u201cBut, we can\u2019t talk! That\u2019s why we\u2019re divorcing!\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>Well listen, if your child was lying in an emergency room and the two of you had to talk and make a decision, would you talk and make the decision?\u00a0 If your answer is \u201cOf course\u201d, well, in your child\u2019s life, this is just as important.<\/p>\n

Talk!
\nTalk about:
\n-Is divorce the only choice?
\n-Is divorce the only answer?
\n-Is divorce necessary now, while the children are young?<\/p>\n

If you cannot talk, then talk with a professional. Yes, it is that important in the lives of your children. Also, if the first professional \u201cjust isn\u2019t right,\u201d try another, and another.<\/p>\n

If you have done all you can to keep the family \u201calive\u201d and, still, divorce is necessary, then you have probably done all that you can.<\/p>\n
