What do you say?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">Often, the first reaction is: <em>\u201cYou need to find a lawyer.\u201d<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">But that may not be the best advice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">There are <strong>three very different approaches<\/strong> to divorce:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>Mediation<\/strong> \u2013 A trained mediator works with both spouses to resolve every issue. Even on the biggest sticking points, mediators are skilled at helping couples reach agreement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>Collaborative Divorce<\/strong> \u2013 Each spouse has a collaborative lawyer, and the process brings in <em>neutrals<\/em> (like financial or parenting specialists) to simplify negotiations, provide guidance, and keep costs down.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>Litigation<\/strong> \u2013 The traditional court process. It is the most expensive, the most time-consuming, and often the most emotionally draining. And here\u2019s a key fact: <strong>97% of litigated divorces settle before trial.<\/strong> If most cases settle, why start by hiring a trial lawyer?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">The truth is, only a small number of divorces actually need a trial. When your friend has just said, <em>\u201cI think I am getting divorced,\u201d<\/em> this is not the moment to talk about court battles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">A better way to help? Suggest that your friend look into all three approaches before making a decision.
